All About Me

Erin, over at Home Savvy has challenged the newbie bloggers to write a blog introducing ourselves!  So, here's my attempt to help you understand a little about me.  Here's a pic of me.  Not very recent, but in scanning through my photos...no one ever takes pictures of ME!  I think this pic I actually took of myself for another blog I use to do.  There was a small group that blogged together and it was not public.  It was more on a personal level I think.  It has eventually just about went away, there are still a few left and I go back and read their blogs as often as time allows.  I will say that I made some great friends for life from that site.  We keep up now on Facebook.

I am the mother of 3 children.  Tyler was my first born and was a premature baby, weighing in at 2lbs 5oz back in 1984.  My first and hopefully last ambulance ride to a hospital about 3 hours from here.  That was a night to remember for sure.   Here's a pic of Tyler and he is a mama's boy whether he wants to admit it or not!  We are like glue.  He lost his father when he was 14 and that was a very hard time for all us.  An unexpected heart attack took his dad at the age of 42.  He has certainly had enough obstacles in his life to go astray, but he is a strong man and I'm proud of him for keeping a straight line.

At the age of 28, I found myself divorced and on my own again.  Not by choice, but I can honestly look back now and say it was for the best.  I come from a Southern Baptist family and I can tell you that divorce was frowned upon.  I don't think anyone in the family frowned upon this divorce though.  Five years later I met my soul mate.   We've been married for 17 years now.  He was the best thing that ever happened to me.
His father is Greek and his mother is Italian and the mixture made him the most handsome man I had ever seen.  He is a mama's boy, which makes him a great husband.  He has a heart of gold.  He continually thanks me for all that I do in our home.   He truly is the love of my life.  He owns a hair salon downtown and I have him nicknamed "The Hair Nazi".  You would think that having a hub that actually cuts and styles hair is a positive thing, right?  WRONG!  I usually get my hair cuts in the kitchen chair...wash my own hair and if I'm lucky he'll blow dry it for me!  Which is a rarity!   Here's a pic of what he does best...sits in his recliner and watches TV, until I have a crazy idea that is!

Jim brought me a beautiful daughter when I met him.  I had Tyler, age 7 and he had Christina, age 9.  What a mix!  He had full custody of his daughter, so we went into this marriage with 2 children and raised them together the best we could.  Step-children homes can be difficult if you as parents are not together in what you do.  We were not perfect, but our main goal was to show these children a very loving home.  I hope we accomplished that.  Here's Christina...she has a heart of gold!

When I turned 40, I surprisingly became pregnant with our daughter Hannah.  She ended what would have been the "empty nest" and became our best friend.  She often calls us the 3 Musketeers!  Her brother was 16 and her sister was off to college at the age of 18 when she was born.  I had always worked outside our home until Hannah was born.  I decided to stay home and open a very small daycare here.  This enabled me to be at home with Hannah and now it feels good to be at home when she arrives home from school.   Here's a pic of our beauty.

Next, there were marriages from our older children....and unfortunately my son is going through a divorce now.  I saw that one coming a mile away, but was hopeful.  Christina is happily married now. They actually "went out" in middle school and then when she was headed to college, they were very close "friends".  Within a month they were a couple.  He in Nashville and she in Athens both at college. Here's a wedding photo of those two.

Christina's hub is pursuing a music career in Nashville, TN.  He was recently on CMT's Next Superstar and came in 2nd place.  We were very proud of him.  This was a very exciting time in our home for everyone.  You can google search Steven Clawson and check out his singing!  He's very talented!

The result of these 2 marriages gave us our beautiful grandchildren!!  Our first grandchild, Hunter was born into heaven at 34 weeks.  A devastating time in our lives, but God gave us Ryder very soon afterwards.

Here's a pic of Ryder, our grandson.  He stays with me on Wednesdays and Fridays during the day.  I can't seem to get enough of him!

Then Sophia arrived this summer!  We have to just miss her.  Nashville, TN seems a million miles away.  They were just here and we'll see them again at Christmas. The holidays this year will be perfect!!

We are two blessed people!  If you have grandchildren, you know what I mean.  So...there's my family, the most important people in my life!  We have the sweetest children in the world.

So...now that you know what is most important about me, my family.  Here's a little info about me, personally. First and foremost, I am a Christian.  I've had many ups and downs, but God has seen me through each and every one of them.    I thrive to keep a neat and orderly home.  Over the last couple of years, I have found the new hobby of thrifting.  LOVE IT.  I can say that hub had a great influence on me with this.  He loves antiques and once I caught the bug, I can't stop now.  My kitchen seems to be the hub of the home and I love this.  I love to cook and I love the holidays.  I love experimenting with new recipes and if I find one I like, you'll hear about it!  With my mom becoming older, 79 now....she is unable to host all the holidays and I happily took it over several years ago.  I love decorating my home all year round.  Last year was the first time I decorated with Fall Decor.  My passion for reading blogs showed me that Fall certainly has a place in the decor world!  I have a handful of friends.  I'm not a social butterfly by no means.  I'd rather be at home with my family than anywhere.  My friends can attest to that.  The friends I do have are very, VERY special to me.  There is nothing I would not do for them and they know who they are.

Now...the next phase in my life of hobbies is blogging.  I'm loving it.  I hope I'm inspiring someone else to take an interest in their home.  I hope to make friends in blog world!  I hope this gives you a bit of information about who I am.  You will see from time to time posts that I will share about my family.  I think this is the best way to let you the readers know what is going on in my real world here.  I know that I love reading about your family!

Now!  Do your duty and join my site, grab my button and read my blog!  I love to see your comments, but most importantly I hope you are getting something out of this nonsense that I blog about!!

I'm linking up to this party today!

  1. Thanks for the great introdution. I learned alot about your love for family. And how cool is that the your SIL took 2nd place, I am sure that was very exciting. I am reminded of that old childrens story of how the cobblers children did not have shoes when you spoke of your husbands job. Have a great weekend.

  3. How interesting to read all this about you. We have a blended family, too, but not as authentic as yours. One of my hubby's sons was married a month after we were. His younger son was a seniou in high school and never really lived with us. My two were 10 and 13 when we married.

  4. Blended families can be tough. We had our times for sure, but I think we hit a home run with our kids.
