My niece, Catie was singing that song to the family yesterday and I can't get it off my mind....so I decided to title my thrifting blog today with it!
I stood in my family room and looked around today and took some pics of all the things I had either bought at Goodwill or some thrifting store. Again....I think my house should probably get the prize for having the most Goodwill items in it for decorating. Is this a bad thing? Have I gone off the deep end?? Do these things really look as amazing as I think they do? Is this just all in my head? Sighs. Well...it's my life and I'm living it. So, either laugh at it or get your thrift on! I really don't think I'm crazy yet! Just a bit crazy about wheeling and dealing I guess. I have finally turned into my dad. That's all I can say about that. *gulps*
This little item was just a nice find. The inscription says "Train children in the right way and when old they will not stray..." Proverbs 22:6 I loved this. It has a little copper lid and when it's open it holds a candle. I thought this would look perfect on Hannah's desk in our family room. $.99 find. Enough said!
What 5th grader doesn't need an electric pencil sharpener. Also, a Goodwill find for $2. It works perfectly and it's been well used since school started. (doncha just love the dachshund?)
This is an elephant bowl, right? It caught my eye at one of the local thrift stores...it's a bit tattered. I'm still trying to decide what to do with it. It's found a place to rest for now....I may paint it...not sure. For $2....I liked it.
Here little fishy....yeah, I'm strange like that. $.99...sold! I love his charm....just something about this fish...and it matched the picture frame on this table!! The detail is great....don't you think?
My bell hanger of monkeys!! Found this in Nashville, TN at a thrifting store. It was brand new...tags still on it....my family room decor has lots of monkeys in it, so this was a steal for $2. I love the detail and it matches perfectly with the room decor! Another great find.
and why wouldn't I want an elephant in my family room?! I LOVED IT! Unusual. $.99....it's a candle holder and is perched on top on my TV. I kept saying...should I get it or not? Hub finally said....GET IT and let's move on now! I love him. He's so supportive!
I broke my lamp for this table...I tried and TRIED to repair it....but when I came across this lamp in Goodwill for $5.99....I knew my shade from my broken lamp would fit and I love the detail on the lamp. Perfect place...perfect color.
Who wouldn't want to sit in THIS chair at their computer? Ours that we had purchased a few years back had clearly had it.....there were several of these chairs in Goodwill...perfect condition...an office must have either re-modeled or closed....I snatched it up. $30. I've had this for a year or more now and it is probably one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever had at my computer!
See these amazing topiaries?! Nashville, TN thrifting got me these. $2.99 each. I change up my mantle for the seasons....Fall mantle coming up very soon, but for now....this is the look I like. I'm thinking about possibly painting the pots...not sure yet.
Dragonfly pillows? Say what!! I think I paid around $2 each for these pillows at a Goodwill store down in Florida. Was this just not the perfect match up for the other pillow I had? That one came from Kirkland's several years ago...it's held up really well and I even broke down and I have machine washed those pillows.
I just recently purchased the FAMILY wooden sign. You can find these at Hobby Lobby and probably a ton of other stores....for me? Goodwill. $3.99 a couple of weeks ago. See my monkey on the shelf? Kirklands. I told you I had monkeys in my family room!!
This little gold glass ball...another Goodwill find. I just love the way it's nestled against the "T" plate on my mantle. For $.99...it was a nice added touch.
Yes...the chair came from Goodwill. It's plaid...my 10 year old HATES plaid...I love it. The label says Simmons Upholstery, Sears. For $29.99 we added this to our family room as well. Sorry the pic is blurred...still adjusting myself to the use of this camera!
I've had this plate rack forever. It orginally held 3 blue old plates...tired of it...actually sick of it....saw this idea on a blog about placing actual pictures on the plate hangers and loved it....found these 3 items at Goodwill. I think I paid around $5 for all 3 and now I have an entirely different look. Don't limit yourself to what can go on plate racks! Pictures look great there as well.
Hannah's desk. I found this at Goodwill a long time ago. I keep saying I'm going to paint it. My plans are to paint the desk white with a black top. Whenever my life slows down...that's on my to do list. This is suppose to be Hannah's homework station...however, I find her doing homework on the couch. Go figure?
So...there you have my family room. I've been able to add so many nice touches to my decor in here at a very cheap price. I know these items at retail would have cost me so much more. When I go into a Goodwill my eye is traveling fast. I can almost immediately find something that will draw me in. Most of the time it's either gently used or it still has the price tags on them.
I hope you've enjoyed this little tour. I actually did not make it to Goodwill this weekend. I'm surprised the staff didn't come looking for me. We had our grandbaby Sophia here....she'll be leaving us tomorrow. We had a wonderful weekend with all my children here. My mom's birthday is today, but we celebrated as a family Saturday night. There seemed not to be a minute to spare all weekend!
I hope this gave you some decorating ideas. Fish, Monkey's and Elephants! OH MY! Until next time...
Linking up with this party!

Next time I go to Goodwill I'm taking YOU!!! My eye is just not made for decorating.....I know what I like when I see it all together, but I can never look at something and envision what will be....same goes for clothes shopping......are your services for hire? do you give discounts for family? ;0p
ReplyDeleteNext time you're in town Kathy....we'll go thrifting!!
ReplyDeleteYou are an expert! Such treasures. I always looked for a fish with an open mouth when I was a Children's Director. Thought it would be perfect to tell the story of Peter finding his tax money in the mouth of the fish. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to use with that Bible story. Thanks for stopping by!
